Salvatore Perla, DrPH
Hospital President
Dr. Perla has more than 20 years as a healthcare executive and clinician and has served in various executive capacities in the Steward Health Care System for the past 11 years. He is president of Norwood Hospital, Nashoba Valley Medical Center, and now serves as interim president of Holy Family Hospital Methuen and Haverhill.
Norwood Hospital was closed after flash flooding in June of 2020 and since then Dr. Perla has been working with the CREF engineering to build the new Norwood Hospital. Before the closure, he led the hospital’s financial turn-around, including the expansion of orthopedics, and developed a clinical strategic plan leading to the expansion of 10 other clinical areas.
At Nashoba Valley Medical Center and Holy Family Hospital he leads service line growth, grassroots community initiatives, and legislative outreach, and is known as an innovative problem solver.
Christine M. Basil, MSN, RN
Vice President, Chief Nursing Officer
Christine M. Basil, MSN, RN is Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer at Holy Family Hospital.
Christine comes to Holy Family Hospital with over 16 years of experience and an extensive clinical background in nursing, nursing education, and leadership. Her career began in the Emergency Department at New Britain General Hospital in New Britain, Connecticut. She later accepted the role of Clinical Manager, and eventually relocated to Massachusetts. Her relocation led her to working in two Central Massachusetts Emergency Departments, and employment as Clinical Faculty at the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Mount Wachusett Community College.
In 2007, Christine joined Heywood Hospital in Gardner, MA as Director of Education and Professional Practice. In 2012, she was promoted to Director of Acute Care Services and Case Management.
Christine earned her Bachelor’s Degree in the Science of Nursing from Fairfield University, her Master’s Degree in the Science of Nursing from University of Hartford, and her Case Management Certification from University of Indiana.
Christine most recently served as vice president and chief nursing officer at Nashoba Valley Medical Center, a Steward Health Care sister hospital in Ayer, MA, where she led her teams in robust process improvement and excellence in nursing practice.
Justine E. DeFronzo, MBA, BSN, RN
Chief Administrative Officer/VP Operations
Justine DeFronzo is an accomplished health care executive with over 20 years of progressive achievement in corporate and community hospital settings. She is a highly visible leader with a passion for innovation and generating positive results in a collaborative professional environment with an emphasis on high-quality patient care and safety.
Most recently Justine was President of New England Sinai Hospital which closed due to low reimbursement rates. Previously she served as chief nursing officer and chief operating officer at Carney Hospital and served as Norwood Hospital’s vice president and chief nursing officer. She came to Norwood Hospital after serving as the associate chief nursing officer at Emerson Hospital in Concord, Massachusetts, where she was responsible for inpatient medical surgical and telemetry services, pediatrics, critical care unit, transitional care unit, behavioral health unit, nurse staffing office, dialysis, and the administrative nursing supervisors. DeFronzo is also experienced in emergency services, having served as director of emergency services at Emerson Hospital and previously in the same role at Heywood Hospital in Gardner, Massachusetts.
DeFronzo spent the early part of her career at Lowell General Hospital, serving in a variety of nursing roles with progressive responsibility, including pediatrics, emergency department, administrative nursing supervisor, and clinical nurse manager – pediatrics and special care nursery. She was instrumental in achieving Magnet designation for the hospital.
DeFronzo received both her Master of Business Administration and Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Rivier University and is a fellow of the MHA Leadership College. In addition, she is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives. DeFronzo is dedicated to community involvement and volunteerism and has been on the Board of Directors for the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Lowell for several years and served as Chair of the Board of Directors for four years.
Jeff Dion, MBA
Vice President, Chief Financial Officer
Jeff Dion, MBA is Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at Holy Family.
A long-standing member of the Steward Health Care system, Dion worked as CFO from 2011-2014 at Holy Family Hospital’s sister hospital St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Brighton, Massachusetts. He returned to Steward Healthcare in 2018 after spending three years as CFO of Newton-Wellesley Hospital.
Prior to joining St. Elizabeth’s in 2011, he spent 15 years in the UMass Memorial Healthcare system in roles of increasing responsibility, culminating as the CFO of Marlborough Hospital from 2008 to 2011.
Jeff earned a MBA from Duke University and a bachelor’s degree in economics from Dartmouth College.
William Goodman, MD, MPH

William Goodman, MD, MPH, is Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and Vice President for Medical Affairs (VPMA) at Holy Family Hospital.
William Goodman, MD, MPH, is the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and Vice President for Medical Affairs at Holy Family Hospital. As CMO Dr. Goodman leads the medical staff and collaborates with leadership at Holy Family Hospital as it strives to provide its patients with the safest and highest quality care possible.
Dr. Goodman is board certified in internal, pulmonary, and critical care medicine, and a graduate of Tufts University School of Medicine. He completed his residency at the Johns Hopkins Hospital and his fellowship at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital. During his fellowship Dr. Goodman obtained his Master of Public Health (MPH) from the Harvard School of Public Health as he investigated the outcomes of lung transplantation.
Dr. Goodman has extensive experience as a practicing physician and for many years was recognized by his peers as a Top Doctor in Pulmonary Medicine in the New Hampshire Magazine. In addition, he was awarded NH Medical Staff Member of the Year in 2016 by the NH Hospital Association for his leadership role in combatting the opioid epidemic in his hospital and community.
Dr. Goodman is a certified physician executive (CPE) member of the American Association for Physician Leadership, a fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians (FCCP) and a Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) member of the National Association for Healthcare Quality.
Prior to joining Holy Family, a Steward Family facility, Dr. Goodman was CMO/VPMA at Catholic Medical Center in Manchester, NH.
